Alternative Provision

We deliver Alternative Provision, on Mondays & Tuesdays - for ages 11yrs to 15yrs.

Combining the benefits of outdoor exercise with bushcraft activities - this is Warrior Wellbeing.

We understand that traditional methods of teaching may not work for everyone. Sometimes a young person needs a different approach.

That’s why Warrior Wellbeing exists.

It’s more than learning outdoor skills. Young people develop social skills, teamwork, resilience and a can-do attitude.

Our programs aim to…

  • Improve school engagement and academic attainment

  • Promote physical and mental wellbeing

  • Improve behaviour, reduce fixed term exclusions, and prevent permanent exclusions

  • Support school transitions

What is Warrior Wellbeing?

Using bushcraft activities and physical challenge, we help young people discover their inner capabilities.

When?

  • Available throughout the school term

  • On Mondays and Tuesdays

  • From 10am to 2pm

Where?

We deliver at Hill End Outdoor Education Centre (near Oxford, OX2 9NJ).

For who?

The days are aimed at girls and boys struggling in school (SEND or otherwise) - aged 11yrs to 15yrs.

Impact will be especially significant for students with:

  • low self-esteem

  • disengaged at school

  • poor social skills

What is the day schedule?

  • 10am - instructors greet students in the car park

  • 10.10am - the team walk to the forest camp area

  • 10.20am - bushcraft skills (rope work, whittling, sawing, splitting logs, fire lighting etc)

  • 11.20am - cook food over the fire

  • 12.00pm - philosophy and wellbeing discussion around the fire

  • 12.20pm - physical training (bootcamp style, with sandbags, ropes, logs etc)

  • 1.40pm - group debrief

  • 2.00pm - pickup time

Getting started

  • Please email/call us - or fill in the contact form below.

  • Following your enquiry, we arrange an initial meeting, either in person or by phone.

  • A paid trial day is arranged.

  • Following the trial day, both parties will confirm final details. We ask parents/schools to sign up for a half-term - with option to review as the weeks progress. If you wish to end a provision, there is a 2 week notice period.

  • Students will be asked to leave their phones at home (unless needed for medical reasons). Instructors can be contacted if needed.

Cost

We operate a sliding scale, to help all parties access the benefits of Warrior Wellbeing.

  • For parents self-funding it’s £110/student/day

  • For schools and council funded (incl. EOTAS) it’s £170/student/day

What’s included

  • Small group; qualified instructors; equipment; site access; certificates and badges.

  • Lunch cooked on the fire (they are well fed)

  • A tracking report after every session - with photos (if permission is given) and insight comments on levels of success, engagement and teamwork.

  • We share with you all our policies (including RAs, safeguarding policy, behaviour policy etc).

What you need to bring

  1. Suitable outdoor clothing

  2. Outdoor footwear like boots or wellies (trainers are fine, but they will get muddy and wet)

  3. Day bag with: spare layers (if cold weather), water bottle (minimum 2L), sandwich (optional) and snack

Warrior Wellbeing is physical (and fun). Students will be tired, but the rewards are great.

“I can’t tell you how grateful we are for all of your mentoring.

You have taught our son valuable life skills which will help him enormously going forwards and it is so lovely to see him grow in confidence and maturity as a result.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!”
